How custom works
& why it's a great choice

Let's be honest, who doesn't want a beautifully made, unique gown for their wedding that they've had a hand in designing?

The only reason brides don't choose custom is because they don't realise it's an option!
Quality, design integrity and comfort are Nova McLaren.

I use the finest french laces, worn by both British and Hollywood Royalty alike!

Italian embroidery companies, crepes from Spain and silks sourced from NYC.

Custom design means minimal wastage, simply by it's nature. I treasure every fabric used and love that I can work in an efficient way.

Design Consultation

I meet with brides in person for a complimentary design consultation.

We discuss your ideas and research, hopes and concerns and bridal gowns and veils from my new collection can be tried on and assessed.

I make design and fabric recommendations, show you fabric swatches, draw some concept sketches and take your measurements.

Muslin Fitting

After deciding on your gown silhouette I make a paper pattern to your measurements and cut and sew a prototype of your dress: the muslin, or more commonly known as a toile in Europe.

From this fit meeting I can pin and fit the muslin to your exact shape and we can see if the silhouette suits your body type and make changes and adjustments to perfect it.

At this point the fabric can be chosen and I can begin making the gown.

Fabric Fittings

Your first fabric fitting will be with the basic structure of your gown in the real fabric. In this fitting I can make any fitting changes easily before any detail is added to the dress.

There is normally 1-3 of these 'in progress' fittings, depending on the complexity of the gown. At every fitting your gown gets closer to completion and ready for walking down the aisle! We can finalise accessories and style your entire look during this time so every element is well planned and considered.
